After clocking some playtime with the new set, I wanted to give my initial thoughts on the cornerstones of this sealed format. Bombs, removal, mana fixing, and the type of deck you are constructing are critical in finding success in this limited format, so lets break down each of those for AVR.
New Standard Decks Updated with Avacyn Restored
With the release of a new set comes updated and possibly new decklists! Up to this point U/W Delver, R/G Aggro, and R/G Wolf Run Ramp always seems to be in the spot light making multiple top 8’s and winning numerous StarCityGames tournaments over and over. Does this new set promise any changes? Will U/W Delver still be considered the best deck? Lets take a look at some new options and go over the card changes.
Avacyn Restored Sealed Pool Exercise
I was fortunate enough to be able to play in a few sealed events over the weekend. While all three pools presented multiple options, the first pool seemed to have infinite builds. I am going to post the card pool along with an email to find out how others would construct the pool. Then next week, I will go into detail on the different builds that I tried along with what other readers post.
CUBE – All Common Pauper Cube List
This is a Cube list that myself and Ryan (Uberobot) have predominantly put together. We have included any card that was ever common even if it currently isn’t printed that way. We are still tweaking it, replacing cards, and trying to remove cards that overlap by performing the same basic function. It has been drafted quite a bit and all the colors seem balanced currently. Our next step in the future may be to expand the numbers we currently have in place to allow for more variance. In future articles we will probably go over what we feel are first picks based upon this Cube, archetypes, and combos. Feel free to leave some comments or ‘Share’ this on Facebook.
Announcing Return to Ravnica
I never got to draft Ravnia but everyone says it was one of if not the best block ever to draft. Cant wait! Full details are here.

The Judge Promos for the Avacyn Restored Pro Tour are…
Never Get Mana Screwed Again! – 1 Drop Deck – Red
Welcome to the second installment of “Never Get Mana Screwed Again!” Today we’re dipping into the amazing mana efficient goodness that red has to offer. With tons of efficient removal and creatures, red stands out as the best low cost to damage ratio of any color by far. With staples in formats as strong as Legacy, you know that the cards are some of the best you could possibly play in a game of Magic. Say goodbye to mulligans and being mana screwed, and hello to blasting your opponents face with the power of fire!
Avacyn Restored Limited – Commons to Not Overlook
Like many of you I am your average joe magic player, getting in games when possible, but working 40 plus hours a week and raising a beautiful family takes time 🙂 This is not an in depth review of the entire limited format. For the most part everyone knows cheap removal, aggressively costed creatures (high power/toughness to low casting cost), and creatures with evasion are early pics. In case you are planning to attend any of the pre release events this weekend here is a quick look at a handful of commons that might get over looked at first glance.
Awesome Budget Commander Deck! (ABCD) – Riku of Two Reflections
Mo fuggin Riku. What can I say? He’s probably one of the most fun generals to build a deck around. This guy doesn’t have one, but two reflections! What a beast! And if you have the oversized foil version of him you can see your own reflection in the card! That’s a f*** ton of reflections! And what does he do while he stands there holding some fire like a boss? Doubles your investments! He’s like the best stock broker in the multiverse! And if you abuse his power of doubling stuff, he still doesn’t give a f***! This is my kind of general!
