GW Aggro(ish) – Video Matches with Decklist

Nov21
2012
Written by AdamRA4

Here is my latest attempt to do some MTGO recordings with a GW Aggro-ish Standard deck.  Its a non-standard list that I think would do well at an FNM or just sitting around with your buddies.  I would not feel completely comfortable taking it to a big tournament, but if you did, I would not fault you for it you would probably do alright.

2012-11-20 Standard - GW Aggro(ish)

  • 4 Sunpetal Grove
  • 4 Temple Garden
  • 7 Forest
  • 6 Plains
  • 2 Cloudshift
  • 4 Rancor
  • 4 Arbor Elf
  • 4 Avacyn’s Pilgrim
  • 2 Oblivion Ring
  • 2 Borderland Ranger
  • 4 Fiend Hunter
  • 3 Silverblade Paladin
  • 2 Garruk Relentless
  • 4 Restoration Angel
  • 4 Thragtusk
  • 4 Wolfir Silverheart
  • -Sideboard-
  • 4 Knight of Glory
  • 1 Oblivion Ring
  • 3 Rest in Peace
  • 4 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
  • 3 Wolfir Avenger

As you can see I play Fiend Hunter over Loxodon Smiter since you can deal with things like Loxodon Smiter, Tokens and Olivia Voldaren.  Below are the matches and below that are some changes I would make for the future.  I do not play perfect but its a fun deck and as I said, probably more tuned for FNM.

Match 1

Match 2

Match 3

Match 4

The deck is a little top heavy and for the life of me I have no idea why I didn’t play Gavony Township, that card is amazing!  I would cut down to two Wolfir Silverheart and take out one of the Borderland Ranger and replace with three Loxodon Smiter to get the curve lower.  I would also cut out Cloudshift and add the 4th Silverblade Paladin and another Loxodon Smiter or Garruk Relentless.  Fiend Hunter may be weak depending if your meta game has a lot of UW Flash decks.  If you are, adding in 4 Cavern of Souls is the right call.  If you are facing mirror matches, I feel this deck has a slight advantage if you add in the cards I mentioned above.

Let me know your comments below and hopefully I will be recording more of these soon!
