Bruna, Light of Alabaster, is a card that is begging to be abused. In Magic, getting anything for free is huge value, and she has the ability to get many things for free.
When one first sees this card, they automatically try to think of the best, beefiest, most powerful aura to try and get on her; but in reality, its a lot simpler than that. When building a deck that utilizes her, its a smarter route not to cram as many aura’s in the deck as possible. Instead try to find the perfect ones.
When Avacyn Restored was released, there weren’t that many insane aura’s that made the deck worth building. The best at the time was Angelic Destiny. There were others such as Spirit Mantle, but in all there weren’t enough GOOD ones to break her.
Now, with M13, Innistrad Block, and Return to Ravnica available to the public, The number of good Aura’s that are floating around Standard Constructed have increased dramatically. With aura’s such as Rancor, Mark of the Vampire, and Tricks of the Trade being in M13, that’s three good aura’s that will have a good effect on getting through your opponents blockers.
With Innistrad, the aura’s were 99% defensive because of the set being mostly “Curse” based. Although there was Curiosity. Now, with Return to Ravnica, there are 2 aura’s that really stand out for this deck: Righteous Authority and Ethereal Armor. Adding these to the deck will give you more offensive power.
So how are you going to find these aura’s in your deck? Easy, dig. What’s the perfect dig card, that allows you to choose one AND fill your graveyard? Forbidden Alchemy. It being an instant means you can cast it in response to her trigger, hitting more potential targets.
Here is a list that I plan on running at an upcoming Friday Night Magic:
5 Color Bruna
Call to the Kindred is an all star in this list because it allows you to get free mythic angels. Also, having a deck that is mostly offensive, have something to protect your Angels is crutial, hints the Faith’s Shields, and having so few creatures that impact the board so much, they are going to get killed, so main decking 3 Unburial Rites is perfectly fine.
This is a deck that can have many different roads, I hope you can find your own version that makes you happy. To me, this is what makes Magic worth playing. Until next time folks.
