Standard Brewing – U/R Delver Burn

Today I will go over a list I threw together while brainstorming deck ideas.  I have played about two dozen matches on MODO while tweaking the deck after almost every round.  I havent played any tournaments or matches where tickets were on the line as I wanted to get a feel for the deck first.  I like what I have so far so lets see what we are dealing with…

Adam Arndt's U/R Delver Burn

  • 4 Noxious Revival
  • 4 Delver of Secrets
  • 4 Vapor Snag
  • 2 Runechanter’s Pike
  • 4 Ponder
  • 4 Incinerate
  • 4 Snapcaster Mage
  • 4 Thought Scour
  • 4 Galvanic Blast
  • 4 Thunderous Wrath
  • 8 Island
  • 6 Mountain
  • 2 Devil’s Play
  • 4 Sulfur Falls
  • 2 Desolate Lighthouse
  •
  • Sideboard
  • 4 Whipflare
  • 3 Steel Sabotage
  • 2 Frost Titan
  • 2 Mountain
  • 2 Inferno Titan
  • 2 Phantasmal Image

What I wanted to do with the list was to abuse Thunderous Wrath and what better cards to do that with than Noxious Revival and Snapcaster Mage.  I am choosing to play only 20 lands to keep the spell density high and make sure Delver of Secrets flips almost every time.  Like the old Delver lists I am running Runechanter’s Pike, which is very strong in this deck for the mid game.  The Desolate Lighthouse‘s help get the engine going if you started with a Thunderous Wrath in hand and need to bin it.

Currently there are no Mana Leaks in the list but I will probably be squeezing them in soon.  They are just too powerful not to have either in the sideboard or main.   I could see cutting the Devil’s Play‘s and the Pike’s for them.

In the board I needed some anti aggro cards so Whipflare was a natural inclusion.  Steel Sabotage is for Delver or R/G Aggro with all the Swords.  If I bring in Frost Titan and Inferno Titan, I also bring in the Lands to help smooth getting to 6.  Phantasmal Images are for an array of things like Wolf Run, Delver (for Geists and Angels), and R/G Aggro with their undying guys.

Feel free to use and tweak the list to your liking.  Like I said it isnt perfect and needs a lot more play testing to be a real deck but would probably be fine at an FNM or other small tournament.  Let me know if you use it and how you did or what if any changes you made.
