{"id":914,"date":"2012-06-01T00:15:30","date_gmt":"2012-06-01T04:15:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/?p=914"},"modified":"2012-06-01T00:31:03","modified_gmt":"2012-06-01T04:31:03","slug":"cuber-dj-avacyn-restored-green-other-part-3-of-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/?p=914","title":{"rendered":"Cuber DJ &#8211; Avacyn Restored Green &amp; Other (Part 3 of 3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve come to the end of my Avacyn Restored cube breakdown.\u00a0 Green has some spicy additions this time, and that&#8217;s always a good thing!\u00a0 There are a few Multicolor, Artifacts, and Lands that I&#8217;m also considering.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s get to it!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>GREEN<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/167.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Abundant Growth<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is a decent color fixer.\u00a0 It is very similar to <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Prophetic+Prism&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Prophetic Prism<\/a> which is not, typically, cube playable. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wizards.com\/Magic\/Magazine\/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom\/daily\/mr239\">cantrip<\/a> is helpful.\u00a0 It still won&#8217;t keep this card from being playable.\u00a0 I have several <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Strip+Mine&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Strip Mine<\/a> effects in my cube that would make this a raw deal.\u00a0 I think I&#8217;ll stick to the stronger artifact fixers like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Coalition+Relic&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Coalition Relic<\/a>.\u00a0 Mana-fixers that are also creatures, like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Birds+of+Paradise&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Birds of Paradise<\/a> seem stronger for Green.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"  aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Champion of Lambholt<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This card could get out of hand when paired with White&#8217;s token prowess or even some on-color token producers like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Deranged+Hermit&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Deranged Hermit<\/a>. The champion has the capability to make your army unblockable very quickly.\u00a0 It is quite weak to <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Wrath+of+God&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Wrath of God<\/a> effects.\u00a0 I have begun testing this in my cube.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Druid&#8217;s Familiar<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This card is deceptively powerful.\u00a0 It can be six power worth of creature for only four mana.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t feel like enough of a boon at that cost. The strong removal in cube will keep if from being playable, as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Nightshade Peddler<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This card will often bait removal from your opponent because keeping it online is a very dangerous proposition.\u00a0 Trading two of your mana for their removal is not a bad deal most of the time.\u00a0 Also, giving deathtouch to pingers like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Spikeshot+Elder&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Spikeshot Elder<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Siege-Gang+Commander&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Siege-Gang Commander<\/a> is quite powerful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Somberwald Sage<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I am very excited about this card! It helps to cement Green into a ramp identity in my cube that it has not had before.\u00a0 It allows very explosive plays! It&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Black+Lotus&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Black Lotus<\/a>-like ability is great at casting powerful creatures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Ulvenwald Tracker<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This card takes a little setup, but is well worth it. It is one of the most efficient, green creature destruction abilities I&#8217;ve ever seen. It is fantastic with creatures you want to kill like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Genesis&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Genesis<\/a>. Deathtouch creatures are also amazing with the fight mechanic. <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Basilisk+Collar&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Basilisk Collar<\/a> is especially spicy! It is not what you want to see in topdeck mode, but can still be useful if drawn late.\u00a0 Most one-drop creatures are not very useful in this situation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/205.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Wolfir Avenger<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Another green, pseudo-removal creature, the flash ability is fantastic here and will make for some great surprise stories! He&#8217;s very efficient for three mana, which many Spikes can appreciate. I&#8217;ve been playing a lot of Super Smash Bros. Brawl lately.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to see an alter of this card with <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wolf_O%27Donnell#Wolf_O.27Donnell\">Wolf O&#8217;Donnell<\/a> in the art!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/206.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Wolfir Silverheart<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The largest creature in the cycle with <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Druid%26%238217%3Bs+Familiar&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Druid&#8217;s Familiar<\/a>. Wolfir Silverheart will often be a five mana 8\/8 that will simultaneously boost your fliers and shadow creatures to the extreme! This is an auto-include for Green. It is fantastic with mana-ramping creatures like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Llanowar+Elves&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Llanowar Elves<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Birds+of+Paradise&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Birds of Paradise<\/a>. They can even take up the boost if you haven&#8217;t played another creature up to that point! Wolfier Silverheart makes me very excited to play with Green, and that is a rarity for me.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">MULTICOLOR<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/>Sigarda, Host of Herons<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the only multicolored angel that I feel is worthy for cube admission. Like I have mentioned in previous articles, I am watching the amount of hexproof in my cube.\u00a0 I do not like the amount of non-interaction it generates.\u00a0 This card makes <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Diabolic+Edict&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Diabolic Edict<\/a> and other similar cards into dead draws.\u00a0 Unfortunately, &#8220;edict&#8221; cards are one of Black&#8217;s strong points, and Black is hurting right now.\u00a0 Sigarda being a 5\/5 flier for five mana puts it in <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Baneslayer+Angel&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Baneslayer Angel<\/a> territory in efficiency.\u00a0 I will be running this as soon as I can cut something from my meager multicolor section.\u00a0 This will be tough.\u00a0 White\/Green is one of the stronger combinations already!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">ARTIFACT<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/214.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Conjurer&#8217;s Closet<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This card is not nearly as exciting as <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Crystal+Shard&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Crystal Shard<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Erratic+Portal&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Erratic Portal<\/a>, and those cards are in decline already. I could see this making larger cubes or more budget-oriented ones.\u00a0 I would not run it before the previous two cards or <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Mimic+Vat&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Mimic Vat<\/a>. Casting five mana cards that do nothing on their own is terrible these days with all the strong creatures and planeswalkers running around.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Mirari%26%238217%3Bs+Wake&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Mirari&#8217;s Wake<\/a> recently got the boot from my cube for the same reason.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/magiccards.info\/scans\/en\/avr\/224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"312\" \/> Vessel of Endless Rest<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Darksteel+Ingot&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Darksteel Ingot<\/a> better in this position. <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Coalition+Relic&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Coalition Relic<\/a> is also a much better card.\u00a0 The extra graveyard removal ability is nicely tacked on here.\u00a0 It&#8217;s hard to find room for cards like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Relic+of+Progenitus&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Relic of Progenitus<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Tormod%26%238217%3Bs+Crypt&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Tormod&#8217;s Crypt<\/a> in your deck when you need to get creatures out of the graveyard permanently. This card hoses while having a decent ability to accelerate or fix your mana base. It will not be a dead, sideboard pick like the other graveyard-hosing cards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">LAND<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/desolate-lighthouse-slayers-stronghold.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-969\" src=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/desolate-lighthouse-slayers-stronghold.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"436\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/desolate-lighthouse-slayers-stronghold.jpg 623w, http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/desolate-lighthouse-slayers-stronghold-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 436px) 100vw, 436px\" \/><\/a>Desolate Lighthouse and Slayers&#8217; Stronghold<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I don&#8217;t run too many lands with colored activation costs, but Desolate Lighthouse and Slayers&#8217; Stronghold are excellent additions for your cube, if you choose to do so.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Merfolk+Looter&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Merfolk Looter<\/a>-like ability and activated haste and creature pump are strong effects on lands that are innately uncounterable and often difficult to destroy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I only chose to highlight specific cards from the set to keep the article shorter.\u00a0 There are a lot of cards in the set that are fun for the Avacyn Restored limited environment.\u00a0 Also, Pauper formats received some robust additions like <a href=\"http:\/\/ajmtg.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-mtg-helper\/mtg_helper_cardfinder.php?find=Seraph+of+Dawn&width=223&height=310\" class=\"jTip\" name=\"\">Seraph of Dawn<\/a>.\u00a0 Avacyn Restored is a strong set for cube!
